In this strange year with no young owls to raise, Junior has gradually grown more quiet as July has passed. He has also started to molt earlier than usual. Notice the lose feather dangling from the side of his neck.
Here, Junior prepares to start the night's hunting on a late July evening.
Although they roost in separate places, Junior and Penelope seem to like to sit together for a while shortly after sunset. Sometimes they can be heard softly calling to one another. It is a much quieter call than Junior's "Who cooks for you" territorial song, which we now seldom hear.
