No plastic here! This Flamingo feeds at the Indianapolis Zoo. Its beak has a built-in strainer to separate nutrients from the mud beneath the water.
This wonderful, large eagle is a Steller's Sea-Eagle, a native of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula in NE Asia. They are also an occasional visitor to Japan and the Aleutian Islands. and are the third largest eagle in the world. The typical size range is 34-41 inches long and the wingspan is 6.8-8 feet. On average, females weigh from 15 to 20 lb, while males are considerably lighter with a weight range from 10.8 to 13.2 lb. This one was photographed at the Cincinnati Zoo by Paul Harbron.
