Killdeer

A Killdeer hunts for food in the dried-up bottom of a pond in Summit Lake State Park. The pond had gone dry due to the drought we've experienced in late summer and fall.

Another Killdeer looks for food in the same pond. Killdeer are usually found in open grassy areas where they build their well-camouflaged nests on the open ground.

Another Killdeer searches along the shore of Summit Lake for food. Though not together in a flock, these birds are probably migrating south for the winter.
