Brown Pelicans

These Brown Pelicans are enjoying a mild day beside a pond in the Kathryn Abbey Hanna State Park on the east edge of Jacksonville, Florida. These adults are displaying the characteristic yellow and black head and white neck. This is their nonbreeding plumage.

Pelicans have a large pouch beneath their jaw which can hold several fish for later ingestion.

This Brown Pelican is just landing. Notice the characteristic brown color of the wing feathers.
