Field Birds

A male Baltimore Oriole visits a necture feeder, above, and hunts in the grass, below. Mick Hardy, who sent us these pictures, says that these Orioles have young but keep them so well hidden in the tops of trees that he's not been able to get any pictures of the babies, yet.

This female Ruby-throated Hummingbird comes often to the Hardy's feeder.

Mick has put meal worms in a feeder for the benefit of the Bluebirds, but this Black Capped Chickadee has found them and emerges from the feeder with one in his beak.

Diane Wheatley of Kelso, Washington, sent us these pictures of Goldfinches. The one above appears to be newly fledged and just learning how to fly. The adult male, below, is in full breeding plumage.

Our thanks to Mick and Diane for these pictures.
