This mother Mallard Duck seemed to purposely lead her six juveniles to a submerged island in the Killbuck Wetlands. Here, the water was shallow enough that they could feed on the bottom without having to "upend" or stretch far to reach the food, skills they may not have yet acquired.
Whatever the ducklings found on the bottom seemed to agree with them as they eagerly fed.
This pair of Mallards watches over their chicks in the wetlands while cottonwood seeds cover the water.
