Summer Birds

The Teeples made this woodpecker feeder by drilling holes in a log. They put suet into the holes. It's mounted on a thin pole to discourage squirrels. Our thanks to Rex, who took the pictures, and Linda who sent them to us.

A Killdeer looks for food on a mud flat in the Killbuck Wetlands. The mud flats make a good place for the Killdeer as they are protected from predators by the surrounding water.

This male Baltimore Oriole was involved in a territorial dispute with another male. They were chasing each other about in the tops of trees, making it difficult to get a clear shot of either.

We have a male House Wren, or "Jenny Wren," singing lustily in the woods near our home. This dead tree seems to be the focus of his activity as he seldom stands still. We have seen him going in and out of the upper hole in the tree and suspect there may be a nest somewhere inside the tree. The holes appear to have been originally made by a woodpecker.
