This is proving to be a hard winter in Indiana. The birds are coping in various ways but have not been very photogenic. Consequently, we are again featuring birds from our recent trip to Florida, including this Sandhill Crane who is enjoying a warm day in Lake County, Florida. See Sandhill Cranes for more pictures of these magnificent birds.
A Limpkin hides among the reeds at the Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge. Limpkins are uncommon. See Florida Birds for more unusual birds.
Our father Barred Owl, Junior, continues his long winter vigil from his roost in the home Sycamore grove. Some time in early March, his mate will lay her eggs. With luck, the young owlets will fledge in mid-May. To find out what other Madison County birds are doing during the winter, see Winter Birds. For more information about our resident owls, see Barred Owl Family History.
These Western Sandpipers scamper about in the surf of a beach on the east coast of Florida. See Shore Birds for more birds seen along the beach.
A Tricolored Heron hunts for fish in the shallow waters of the Woodruff NWR. See Tricolored Herons for more pictures of these beautiful birds.
