Late Summer Birds


A juvenile Wood Duck cruises on the Killbuck Wetlands, above, and with a sibling, below. They do not yet have their adult feathers. The one on the right, below, is probably a male and the other a female.



A couple of immature Mallards survey the waters of the Killbuck Wetlands while another tries to harvest algae from the spillway of the nearby dam.



Belted Kingfishers are solitary birds. They neither gather into flocks nor pair off. We cannot ever recall seeing two of them together before, but here they are in a tree above the Killbuck Wetlands.


A Great Blue Heron watches over a peaceful stretch of Killbuck Creek.
