Wildlife Resqu Haus

These juvenile Great Horned Owls were brought to the Wildlife Resqu Haus several weeks after the fierce specimen we took there in early April. They are also younger and less developed. The one on the left is just now growing ear tufts. They will be released into the wild when they have learned to catch mice for themselves and have demonstrated the skills necessary to survive without help.

A juvenile Cooper's Hawk shows off its blue eyes and colorful breast.

This Red-tailed Hawk is a permanent resident of the Wildlife Resqu Haus. Its left wing is missing and it would not be able to live in the wild. This bird is used for educational purposes.

This proud bird is a juvenile Swainson's Hawk. Its normal range is in the Great Plains and regions west from there. It was found exhausted in a Delaware County farm field, in east-central Indiana, this spring. Diane Shaffer has nursed it back to health and it will be released when it is ready.

Our thanks to Diane Shaffer both for the opportunity to photograph these fine birds and for her tireless devotion to restoring to health birds that would otherwise perish.
