Barbara
G. Smith, age 72, of the Pittsfield HealthCare
Center in Pittsfield,
Ill. and formerly of Baylis,
Ill. died early Tuesday (December
2, 2003) at the care center. She was born September
4, 1932 near El Dara, Ill.
daughter of the late Emory and Lottie Mummey Smith. Surviving is one son, Steve
Smith and wife Linda of St. Charles,
Mo.; daughter, Connie Lerch of Baylis,
Ill.; four grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; one sister, Roselyn Lahmann of Baylis,
Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nellie Smith; and two
brothers, George and Bill Smith. Barbara was a graduate of Pittsfield
High School and a past employee of
Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield, Ill.
and later was employed by Wolverine Shoe Company in Hannibal,
Mo. until her retirement. She enjoyed
crochet, and reading. She was a member of the New Hartford Christian Church and
the Pike County Home Extension and was a trustee on the Baylis town board. She
was also secretary for the Baylis Volunteer Fire Department and a former member
or the Highpoint board. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday (December
5, 2003) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. with Rev.
Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Burial will be in Taylor-Martin
Cemetery near El
Dara, Ill. Friends may call after
3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
where family will meet with friends from 6
to 8 p.m..
