Greetings
It’s high summer now, and I hope everyone is able to stay cool in the heat waves the country has been having. It has either been unseasonably cool or “The Porch of Hell” in Indiana over the last month.
It’s the time of year for county and local fairs around our area. There are some good ones for the collector to visit that are a step up from flea markets, and there’s the possibility of some interesting finds.
We recently visited the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show in Portland, IN. We have enjoyed this event for many years and made some good acquisitions here.
For the fruit jar collector there is always a chance that you will come across a desirable find, but in most cases, you come across tables full of more modern jars, as seen in the picture. I know that some of our Ball jar collectors could find a treasure in this, so I’m not belittling that. But it seems that when you talk to someone not associated with the hobby, this is what their first thought goes to. Not their fault, it just makes the conversation more difficult.
I am sure the bottle collectors in the club find the same thing, “I’ve got a nice Jim Beam Indy 500 bottle!”
I suppose it is our duty and mission to educate when we can, to the people who are willing to learn, and enjoy our hobby.
Wishing good health and happiness to everyone.
Jerry Dixon
